Pre-Grade 100 Pokémon Cards in an Hour (Bulk Workflow)
The 60-minute bulk Pokémon card pre-grading workflow — screen 100 cards, triage for PSA submission, save $1,000s in fees.
Bulk pre-grading is what separates dealers and power-user collectors from hobbyists. The math is brutal: a 100-card PSA submission at the Regular tier is $5,000. Of those 100 cards, ~30 will return at grade 7 or 8 — that’s $1,500 in wasted fees.
Pre-grade the batch first and you flip the math. The full workflow takes about an hour and costs $100. Here’s the play-by-play.
What you need
- 100 Pokémon cards sorted into a manageable pile
- Daylight or a diffused light source
- A flat table large enough to lay cards out
- A phone or laptop with a camera and a browser
- A SnapGrade account with 100 credits (Pro pack is $50 for 50 credits, $100 for 100)
That’s it. No special equipment, no studio setup.
The 4-step bulk loop (~35 seconds per card)
For each card:
- Photo front (~10 seconds — frame, focus, shoot)
- Photo back (~10 seconds)
- Tap “Upload” in the SnapGrade web app (~5 seconds; image-quality check runs)
- Move to next card while previous one grades (~10 seconds buffer)
At 35 seconds per card, 100 cards = ~60 minutes. SnapGrade’s bulk mode lets you queue multiple uploads in parallel, so the practical floor is closer to 45 minutes if you have a stable rhythm.
Using SnapGrade’s bulk mode
The bulk mode workflow:
- From your SnapGrade dashboard, click “Bulk grade”
- Drag-drop 20+ card photos at once (front + back pairs)
- SnapGrade processes the batch in parallel — usually 30–60 seconds for 20 cards
- Results auto-sort by predicted grade in the bulk view
You can do four bulk-mode batches of 25 cards each, or two batches of 50, depending on how you prefer to pace.
Reading the bulk report
After processing, the bulk view shows:
| Card | Predicted grade | Confidence | Sub-grades (C/Co/E/S) | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charizard ex alt-art | 9.5 | 91% | 9.5/10/9.5/9 | Submit |
| Reverse Holo Blastoise | 8.0 | 84% | 8/8.5/8/8 | Skip — raw sell |
| Iono SIR | 9.0 | 78% | 9/9/9.5/9 | Submit (Regular tier) |
| … |
Sort by predicted grade descending. Your top tier (9.5+) goes to PSA Express or Regular. Mid-tier (9.0) goes to Regular if values justify. Below 9 — sell raw or hold.
Triage decision tree
For each card in the bulk result, apply this triage:
Predicted PSA 9.5+ AND raw value $80+
→ Submit to PSA. Choose Express tier if raw value is $300+. Regular tier for the rest.
Predicted PSA 9 AND raw value $80+
→ Submit to PSA Regular tier. Confirm PSA 9 vs PSA 10 spread on recent comps before committing.
Predicted PSA 9 AND raw value $40–$80
→ Marginal. Check the specific card’s PSA 9 premium. Often worth Bulk tier if you have enough qualifying cards.
Predicted PSA 8 or below
→ Skip PSA. Either sell raw (with the SnapGrade pre-grade URL attached for transparency) or hold for later inspection.
Below 70 % confidence
→ Credit auto-refunded. Re-shoot the photo and try again with better lighting, or skip the card.
Cost: what 100-card screening actually costs
- 100 SnapGrade credits (Pro pack rate of $1/card): $100
- Time: ~60 minutes at 35 sec/card
What that $100 buys you:
- Confidence on which of the 100 cards belong in your next PSA submission
- A roughly 30 % submission-fee saving on the typical 100-card batch (avoiding ~$1,500 in wasted PSA fees at Regular tier)
- A shareable pre-grade URL per card (useful for raw listings; see dealer guide)
ROI on $100 of pre-grading: typically 10–15× on the next PSA submission alone.
Power-user tips
Lighting hack
Set up by a window with the cards on a dark surface. Phone overhead, camera facing down. The viewfinder framing is more consistent than handheld over a table.
Batch shooting
Photograph 25 cards’ worth of fronts, then 25 backs. Upload all 50 in one bulk call. Faster than the front-back-front-back cycle because you avoid the cognitive switching cost.
Hot keys
The SnapGrade web app supports keyboard shortcuts for the bulk grading view: arrow keys to navigate cards, s to mark for submission, r to mark to skip, f to flag for re-shoot. Cuts your triage time materially.
Skip the toploader
Photograph the card raw, not in a sleeve or toploader. Glare from the toploader fights the surface analysis. Handle by edges, shoot quickly, re-sleeve immediately.
What to do when the model flags an uncertain card
If SnapGrade’s confidence is in the 70–80 % range:
- Re-shoot the photo with cleaner lighting — sometimes confidence is dragged by photo quality, not the card itself
- Check the specific axis flagged — if centering is the uncertain axis, eye-check whether the borders look 55/45 or 60/40
- Default to “skip submission” for uncertain mid-tier predictions — the bias should be to avoid wasted PSA fees on cards we’re not sure about
For uncertain high-value cards ($500+), pre-grade twice with slightly different angles. The two predictions usually converge.
Frequently asked questions
Can I really screen 100 cards in an hour?
Yes, with practice. First time through, plan for 90 minutes. By the third 100-card session, you’ll be at 45 minutes consistently.
Do bulk discounts apply?
Yes. SnapGrade’s Pro pack drops the per-card cost to $1 (vs $2 at the single-credit rate). For 100 cards, that’s $100 vs $200 — a meaningful difference.
What if some cards in my batch are non-Pokémon?
SnapGrade supports Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, sports, One Piece, Lorcana. Mixed-game batches work fine — the model auto-detects the game.
Can I share the bulk results with my submission group?
Yes — export your bulk results as CSV from the dashboard. Sortable by predicted grade, confidence, sub-grade. Useful for collaborative submission decisions.
What’s the typical hit rate for “submission-worthy” cards in a 100-card batch?
About 50–70 % depending on the batch. The remaining 30–50 % are skipped before paying PSA fees — which is the entire point.
The bottom line
Bulk pre-grading a 100-card batch takes ~60 minutes and $100. The typical result: identification of the 30 cards that wouldn’t have justified their PSA fee, avoiding ~$1,500 in wasted submission costs.
